Bob focuses his practice on both the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and with post-grant and appellate matters, including licensing and infringement and freedom to operate opinions. He prepares and prosecutes patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in technologies ranging from computer hardware design, software systems, semiconductor fabrication, cellular communications, wireless devices and networking, and business methods.

Bob is active in many aspects of the firm’s patent practice, including patent preparation and prosecution, contested proceedings before the USPTO and appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Leveraging more than 14 years of legal experience and a prior career in the technology industry, Bob has represented Fortune 50 companies in multiple complex and high-profile post-grant proceedings that involved co-pending district court litigation and is familiar with the challenges faced by both patent owners and petitioners in these proceedings. In particular, he has represented patent owners and petitioners in more than 30 post-grant proceedings.

Before joining WoodIP, Bob was an attorney at two Washington, D.C.-based patent law firms and counsel at an Am Law 200 general practice firm. He also had a prior career in business working with a variety of high technology companies, including a multinational computer firm, global publishing conglomerate, and a national defense contractor. He also was the founder and president of a multimillion-dollar technology company that provided custom-designed computer hardware, software, training, and certification solutions.

Bob earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and his M.S. in electrical engineering and an MBA in finance from Northeastern University.
