Wood IP’s Marc Dandin Receives NSF CAREER Award for Pioneering Research in Microsystems and Biomedicine

FIRM NEWS

Wood IP is proud to share that Marc Dandin, PhD, Senior Technical Specialist with our firm and Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, has been awarded the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award. This five-year grant is among the NSF’s highest honors for early-career faculty who demonstrate exceptional research and educational leadership.

Dr. Dandin’s research lies at the intersection of microsystems engineering, circuit design, and biomedicine. His work explores how biology can inspire more efficient sensing and actuation systems, as well as how integrated technologies can lead to new diagnostics and therapies that address unmet needs in medicine.

The CAREER Award supports his innovative approach to single-photon detector technologies, advancing imaging at the quantum limit with potential impact across quantum computing, biosensing, and biomedical analysis. The program also includes a strong educational component, from early exposure to optoelectronics for middle and high school students to entrepreneurship training for undergraduates and graduate researchers.

At Wood IP, we celebrate Dr. Dandin’s recognition not only for its scientific significance but also for its broader vision of innovation, education, and technology translation. His dual role as both a researcher and IP specialist reflects the kind of forward-thinking expertise that strengthens our work with clients on protecting complex, emerging technologies.

We look forward to the discoveries and innovations his work will continue to generate.
